Sometimes I can't believe...

I’m writing from “Timbertop” - the hidden away year 9 campus of Geelong Grammar. It’s in the bush, not too far from Mount Buller. Students come here for an amazing year of growth… academic, physical and spiritual. Pete and I have just played during the regular Friday night gathering.

Sometimes I can’t believe the fantastic opportunities we have: Getting to play in a magnificent chapel (with an incredible valley view through its glass end wall) to a few hundred people who were interested in our stories and songs. Then hanging out, talking about music and life. What a privilege.

Tomorrow we drive to Kyabram, a small town in central Victoria. I’m looking forward to catching up with some people we met there in February this year. I was amazed at how many people there have inspirational stories of endurance, persistence and hope in the midst of incredible challenges. We are doing two community concerts in the area before heading to Shepparton for a Sunday night presentation.

Late Sunday night we drive home to Melbourne. There’ll be a quick sleep then a school presentation on Monday.

Sorting and refining
Songwriting

I’m currently working to finish a number of songs. It’s amazing how many quick ideas I’ve sung into my phone and recorded onto my computer over the last year; ideas that have often been left undeveloped from their initial birth… until now. I’ve been going back through them, separating the potentials from the rubbish, and then working to refine and finish them.

I’ve also been inspired by some great writers (such as John Piper) to explore a number of new topics in my song-writing: thoughts like… you didn’t think I’d tell you, did you? :)  I’m hoping there’ll be a new album released in the first half of 2011 in which all will be revealed.

We played at three different high schools in Perth over the last two days... and we were blown away.  This has been our first trip to Perth and we now wonder why it has taken us so long to get here Frown. You guys are amazing -- the energy, the enthusiasm, the LOVE. We are looking at bringing the band back by request in October. God-willing it will happen. A big shout out to all the students at MLC, Carey and Ellenbrook CC. Thanks guys for all the emails, Myspace and Facebook comments.

It was fantastic to have the opportunity to play in Geelong on the weekend.  As a band we supported Aussie rock legend, Russell Morris.  We couldn't have asked for a warmer wlecome from the crowd... many asking when we will next return.  Hopefully soon!

Playing for the Prince of...
Gigs

Thursday, 30 March 2006
It all started when I was called up at 4pm by a venue a regularly play at in Melbourne's city.  Given very few details and the fact that it was the middle of the busy Commonwealth Games, I turned up in my regular casual clothes and started setting up in the public bar.  The manager soon approached me saying, "No, no! You're performing downstairs in the function room tonight."  As I began to move my gear down he continued to fill me in, "You'll be performing at the 58th birthday of the prince of Tonga... no pressure, but there will be Commonwealth Games officials from all over the world and even people from the Sydney Olympic Committee".  I found this most amusing but a little concerning in the fact that I was so under dressed for the event.  Calling home, some smarter attire was soon on the way (thanks to the beautiful Jodi and her brother, Andrew).  I should also add, the prince is a keen singer and in the middle of the night, refering to me as his friend, "Simeon", shared the microphone to entertain his guests.  Of the four songs he chose to sing he finished acapella on the naughty tune...
(yes, I'm going to leave this blank so I don't cause a huge press controversy :)
